Heidi Fedore, a debut author, retired Puget Sound school administrator, and former English teacher, has observed teenagers for over twenty-seven years and has witnessed the fallout from teen gossip and the resilience of many adolescents. She also has seen how learning about and spending time in nature buoyed adolescents’ mood and aspirations while she was an Environmental Science Academy (ESA) teacher at West Seattle High School, from 2001 to 2004. She has served as an educator in Puget Sound school districts, from 1993 to 2022. Since retirement, she has written a monthly blog, infusing education anecdotes, featuring topics ranging from striving for a healthy lifestyle to humorous commentary about social issues.

She also wrote a screenplay for Pigs and Flakes in 2024 and earned placement on the “Hot 100” list in the Capital Fund Screenwriters Competition.

PRAISE for Pigs and Flakes
“I felt invested in the characters’ journeys from early on and continued to care what happened to them as the book moved forward. …An engaging narrative? Yes, certainly! Once Gabby makes it to the farm, the adventure really begins, and we’re interested to see how she’ll make do in a new environment.” Sara DeGonia, Reedsy narrative editor
“[This story] demonstrates an engaging narrative core, driven by Gabby’s relatable experiences and grounded in the evocative setting of her uncle’s English farm. [It] effectively combines themes of personal growth, family dynamics, and cultural adaptation. …It skillfully avoids becoming overly sentimental, and the humor generally feels grounded in character-driven moments, which prevents it from undercutting the more serious elements.” International Screenwriters Association evaluator
“This has been an absolute joy to work on, and I really loved the empowering messages for teens.” Lucy York, Reedsy copy editor
